Our Chakra System is comprised of many spinning vortexes of energy but typically we are concerned with the major seven. There is so much that can be said or written about this fascinating system but let’s start with the basics.
The Root (1st) Chakra which radiates from the perineum (the area between the anus and the scrotum or vulva) and includes the legs into the feet governs basic life on the physical plane. It is associated with shelter, employment and general safety in our environment.. When our sense of survival feels threatened this chakra can become closed off – meaning that the energy is not flowing in or out and the organs or other body parts that are governed by this chakra can be affected to the point that stress or distress can occur. These would include: The sciatic nerve; the large intestine; lower back/spine; and also has some influence over the kidneys and adrenal glands. The color associated with this chakra is red – a color we can breathe in or bring into our environment to increase the vibrational frequency of this energy center.
The Sacral (2nd) Chakra which radiates from the sacrum governs relationships; sex; creativity and money and is a vulnerable area – open to energy depletion or energy “dumping” from others. It is in our best interest to protect this area when we find ourselves in a confrontation or heavily trafficked areas like airports. My favorite method of protection is imagining this area (all the way around our body from sacrum to pubic bone, including our hips) covered with mirrors facing outward. This will reflect back any negative energy coming our way or prevent anyone’s directed intention (conscious or unconscious) from taking our sacred energy. It governs reproductive organs; the urinary tract and also has some influence over the spleen and adrenal glands. The color associated with this chakra is orange and as mentioned above (Red for the Root Chakra) this color can be breathed into the area or placed into our environment to increase its energy.
The Solar Plexus (3rd) Chakra which radiates from the upper belly is where our true power and our ego- self reside. The struggle persists throughout our lifetime – in most cases – unless we become highly evolved. Our ego is ruled by our rational (or sometimes irrational) mind rather than our heart. If we live from the ego, we tend to make decisions that don’t often serve our highest good or the good of others because our ego does not utilize information from the higher realms. Our ego does serve a purpose in this world in that it protects us from consistently being attacked by lower vibrating individuals. We say “No” to abuse but if we have a solid sense of our true authentic power, we do not feel the need to retaliate – rather, we remove ourselves from the low vibrational frequency of negative, hurtful people. It primarily governs the digestive organs but also the spleen and the associated color is golden yellow. I like to breathe in and/or absorb the “golden rays of the sun” when working on increasing the vibrational frequency of this chakra.
The Heart (4th) Chakra is the mid-way point between the lower and higher-vibrating chakras. It is the beautiful chakra of love and peace and governs the physical heart; the respiratory system; the upper back; arms and hands. From this place, we love ourselves; others and our world. When we are hurt by others, often this chakra will shut down. As a result, we can become alienated; indifferent; uninterested; and unreachable. But when we are living from the heart, we make a difference in the world. Having an open channel from the higher realms through our higher chakras allow us to make better decisions for ourselves and the collective consciousness. The color associated with this chakra is generally green but also rose pink energy emanates from this source of healing. I often use this rose pink energy in my sessions by directing it towards areas of the Mindbody that need special attention.
The Throat (5th) Chakra is the “avenue of expression” chakra. From here, we speak our truth and fulfill our life purpose. It controls the ears, nose, throat, neck and all of the structures contained within. When we hold back from expressing who we are –authentically – we can create an illness anywhere in the head or neck. The color associated with this chakra is cool, crisp blue!
The Third Eye (6th) Chakra is the seat of Intuition; morality and self-awareness. It governs our brain; Pituitary and Pineal glands. The color associated with this chakra is indigo blue. From here, we decipher the messages that come through our Crown (7th) Chakra from Source or Higher Beings (Avatars; Angels; and other Spirit Guides). I believe that Source will give us a strong sense of Intuition consistently if we use it responsibly (which means we are vibrating at a higher frequency). The colors associated with the Crown are violet and white (for the white light that comes through when this chakra is open and in tune with the higher realms).
I do also acknowledge the chakras of the soles and palms. For most people, excess or “negative” energy can be eliminated through the soles or palms and Earth energy can be absorbed. For healers – excess or “negative” energy from our clients can be removed from them via our hands and then released out through our feet (or through the breath). But since healers are people too – both scenarios apply!
